Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the art and science of excellence, derived from studying how top people in different fields obtain their outstanding results. These behaviours and communication skills can be learned by anyone to improve their effectiveness both personally and professionally.
The principal of NLP is to examine how we see the world (our personal 'map'), to realise that this is only our current view and that eveyone else's is different. We can then look to change it to be more effective in order to acheive our goals.
Think of it like this. If you wanted to be good at surfing, you would watch good surfers; how and where they stood on the boards, how they balanced their bodies, how they turned into each wave.
What NLP does is the same but with the mind. If you want to be a great business person, look at one and mimic their behaviours. Stand in the same way, assume their thoughts and even their breathing and speaking patterns. Put yourself in to that person's shoes. What does their 'map' look like? What do they think or feel?
Becoming good at using the techniques can help you enormously to read and understand people better and with that comes greater rapport and stronger influence.
I strongly recommend that you learn about NLP, especially if your business relies on your ability to negotiate and communicate at a high level. There are only a few books on the subject worth reading - I have highlighted a few in the further resources section.
